WHAT WE'RE GONNA TALK

Just like in a cafe, we talk about everything. Nothing heavy. Just talk over a cup of coffee.

CAN YOU HANDLE SUCCESS?

"I tried 1000 different ways to find a solution, but 1001st was the best solution" - Thomas Alva Edison, when asked about his experience in inventing the light bulb.

The first question is "What is Success?"

The dictionaries provide various definitions of success as 'an occurrence that accomplishes its intended purpose' or 'a state of prosperity or fame' or 'a realization that a person is successful', but success is broader than what we define. Achieving success means you became famous; you can have enough money to buy the luxuries you longed for so many years, you are being a darling of the masses.

ENJOY YOUR LIFE

Human life is very precious. Each day is a new beginning. God has bestowed on all of us many gifts and it is up to us, how we take things in our life.

This world itself is very beautiful. We are born into this world and have people around to love and care for us. Just imagine how it would have been if we were born as animals or any other creature.

SMOKE DURING PREGNANCY PUTS CHILDREN AT RISK

Women who smoke during pregnancy may be putting their children at increased risk for conduct problems in childhood, researchers found.

Across three different studies, children whose mothers smoked during pregnancy -- whether they were reared by their genetically-related mother or an adoptive mother -- had higher mean scores on measures of conduct problems compared with children whose birth mothers did not smoke during pregnancy, according to Gordon Harold, PhD, of the University of Leicester in England, and colleagues.

SKIPPING BREAKFAST MAY INCREASE A CHANCE OF HEART ATTACK

Another reason to eat breakfast: Skipping it may increase your chances of a heart attack.

A study of older men found those who regularly skipped breakfast had a 27% higher risk of a heart attack than those who ate a morning meal. There's no reason why the results wouldn't apply to other people, too, the Harvard researchers said.

Other studies have suggested a link between breakfast and obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and other health problems seen as precursors to heart problems.

"But no studies looked at long-term risk of heart attack," said Eric Rimm, one of the study authors at the Harvard School of Public Health.

LIFE OF VICTORY

Many of us have experienced many challenges in our lives. Some we have brought on ourselves leading to unexpected consequences. Other times it's situations out of our control. No matter the case, life can be dark and at times we wonder when the light will shine. We then live with guilt for the pain we caused and fail to forgive ourselves when God already did. The lack of hope takes over causing a deep sadness that cripples our lives. The hole in our heart being so deep we forget that it can be filled. We go through life searching for fulfillment, but in all the wrong ways.

HAVE YOU NOTICED?

Have you noticed that birds do sing? Trees do swing? Have you noticed that trees help you breathe?

Trees provide shade. Trees blossom. Trees shed leaves. Trees are rooted and connected to the vine. What is a tree without branches?

If we as humans are the most perfect creation, liken unto God… What is our purpose? What are we providing? Who are we protecting? Are we blossoming? Are we connected? Are we branching out?

FOR ENTREPRENEUR: 6 FUNDAMENTALS NEED TO SUCCEED

As an entrepreneur who founded and runs a successful and growing business, Getaroom, I see many entrepreneurs with great ideas but no clue how the business will be profitable. For certain websites or apps, if the idea is good enough you can get lucky and sell the business after you get a spike in interest. However, most companies require considerable planning and need both a competitive advantage and a solid business plan in order to succeed. For my company, I focused on a big market and found a profitable and attractive niche.

If you're thinking about starting your own company, here's my advice:

MARS LOST ITS ATMOSPHERE 4 BILLION YEARS AGO

A mysterious, catastrophic event tore away the atmosphere of Mars, according to the first detailed analysis of the make-up of the air on the Red Planet.

A year after the Curiosity rover landed on Mars, and having travelled a kilometre over the Martian surface, its SAM (Sample Analysis at Mars) instruments have returned their first measurements, confirming the identity of the gases in the Martian atmosphere, which include argon, nitrogen, oxygen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.

RESILIENCE IS THE NEW GAME

The difference between winners and losers is how they handle losing.

That's a key finding from my ongoing research on great companies and effective leaders: no one can completely avoid troubles and potential pitfalls are everywhere, so the real skill is the resilience to climb out of the hole and bounce back.

BUS DESTINATION: NOWHERE

As I was sitting on a bench at the bus station, trying to figure out where I was going to go, I overheard a man ask the clerk for a ticket to nowhere.

Seeming a little confused, as the man walked by I decided to stop him and I asked, "Sir, I was not being nosey but did I hear you ask that lady for a ticket to nowhere?"

The man turned to me and said, "Yes, that is where this ticket shall take me, yet I have second thoughts of going."

HOW ARE WE THINKING?

Thought can attract to us only that which we first mentally embody. We cannot attract to ourselves that which we are not. We can attract in the outer only that which we have first completely mentally embodied within, that which has become a part of our mental make-up, a part of our inner understanding.

A man going into business will attract to himself that which he thinks about the most. If he is a barber, he will attract people who want to be shaved or have their hair cut. If he sells shoes, he will attract people who want to buy shoes.

TIME IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN LIFE

A young man learns what's most important in life from the guy next door.

It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man; college, girls, career, and life itself got in the way.

In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of his dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.

Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.

WHAT IS LIFE?

What is Life?
It's a journey through a way,
Through which we must go-
Away and away…

What is Life?
It's a very tough game,
Performance is what-
Brings us the name…

What is Life?
It's today full of sorrow,
Face this eye to eye-
Joy will come tomorrow…

WHAT MAKES US INTROVERT AND EXTROVERT?

Why do some people prefer adventure and the company of others, while others favour being alone? It’s all to do with how your brain processes rewards.

Will you spend Saturday night in a crowded bar, or curled up with a good book? Is your ideal holiday adventure sports with a large group of mates and, or anywhere more sedate destination with a few good friends? Maybe your answers to these questions are clear – you'd love one option and hate another – or maybe you find yourself somewhere between the two extremes. Whatever your answers, the origin of your feelings may lie in how your brain responds to rewards.

JACK, DO YOU REMEMBER ME?

“Good morning,” said a woman as she walked up to the man sitting on ground.

The man slowly looked up.

This was a woman clearly accustomed to the finer things of life. Her coat was new. She looked like she had never missed a meal in her life.

His first thought was that she wanted to make fun of him, like so many others had done before.. "Leave me alone," he growled....

MY RED DRESS

I woke up one day in a "down", sad mood. I was going to work that morning and had to dress up for my job. With the way I was feeling, I believe most people would have chosen dark and drab colored clothing. Believe me, that was my first thought. "Grab your ugliest dress to go with your ugly feelings."

Well, I eventually decided on a fancy red dress. I thought, "Well if I can't feel good, I will at least try to look good, and maybe make someone else feel better." It was amazing how my outlook got better just by putting that dress on.

THE ARCHITECTURAL MARVEL OF SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE

A groundbreaking vision and a controversial construction colour the fascinating history of one of the world’s most iconic buildings, writes Jonathan Glancey.

“It stands by itself as one of the indisputable masterpieces of human creativity, not only in the 20th Century but in the history of humankind.” With this ringing endorsement from Unesco in 2007, the Sydney Opera House was declared a World Heritage Site. The famous building, with its soaring, sail-like roofs, that is often said to define the city, country and continent, was promoted to join ranks with the Egyptian pyramids, the Great Wall of China and the cathedrals of Chartres and Durham.

CORY MONTEITH OVERDOSED ON HEROIN & ALCOHOL

Canadian Actor Cory Monteith died from a mix of heroin and alcohol in his system, the B.C. Coroners service has confirmed.

"Post-mortem testing, which included an autopsy and toxicological analysis, found that Mr. Monteith, aged 31, died of a mixed drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol," said a statement release by the coroner on Tuesday afternoon.

"It should be noted that at this point there is no evidence to suggest Mr. Monteith’s death was anything other than a most-tragic accident."

Monteith, 31, was found dead by staff at the Fairmont Pacific Rim on Saturday afternoon when he failed to check out of the hotel.

Fizzy drinks, cakes, biscuits, crisps and desserts may increase the risk of bowel cancer, according to a new study.

Scientists looked at factors including diet, levels of physical activity and smoking in Scottish bowel cancer patients.

They reported links with some established risk factors of colorectal cancer - such as family history of cancer, physical activity and smoking.

BOSE'S FOUNDER DIES AND THE LEGACY HE LEAVES BEHIND

Amar Bose, the founder and chief executive of the audio company that bears his last name, died last Friday (July 12, 2013) at his home in Massachusetts at the age of 83.

Prior to Mr. Bose—or, more specifically, the Bose 901 Direct/Reflecting Speaker, his first major product—high-end audio was something obsessed over by finicky audiophiles: men and women (but let’s be honest here—mostly men) who were on a never-ending quest to recreate the absolute sound. Audiophilia, to that point, required deep technical knowledge, a monastic-like discipline in researching and assembling your rig, and lots of cash.

ELON MUSK: NY TO LA IN 45 MINUTES (video)

Elon Musk wants to revolutionize transportation. Again. The serial entrepreneur envisions a future where mag-lev trains in enormous pneumatic tubes whisk us from Los Angeles to New York in 45 minutes. Need to be in Beijing tomorrow? No problem. It’s a two-hour ride away.

As crazy as it sounds, Musk is merely updating an idea that’s been around since the early 1900s, and at least one company is working on a functional prototype. But according to Wired sources, his involvement won’t be nearly as hands-on as Musk’s other endeavors at Tesla Motors and SpaceX.

The engineering behind the Hyperloop is similar to the old-school pneumatic tube systems used by banks to suck your deposit to the teller at the drive-through. But naturally, it’s more complicated than that.

ASPIRIN MAY LOWER WOMEN'S COLORECTAL CANCER RISK

Women who use aspirin every other day may lower their chance of developing colon cancer by as much as 20 percent, compared to women who don't take the chalky pill.

This year alone, the National Cancer Institute reports 102,480 new patients will be diagnosed with colon cancer and 40,340 will be diagnosed with rectal cancer. About 50,830 people will die from colon or rectal cancer.

PREVENT DEMENTIA AND ALZHEIMER BY DELAYING RETIREMENT

A new study in France has found that people who delay retirement are less likely to develop Alzheimer's disease or other kinds of dementia.

The Washington Post reported that this study, which was presented Monday at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference in Boston, has been the largest one to look at this issue. Nearly half a million people participated in order for the researchers to come to this conclusion.

Carole Dufouil, a scientist for the French government, and leader of the study said, "For each additional year of work, the risk of getting dementia is reduced by 3.2 percent."

READ THE WORLD IN 196 BOOKS

Writer Ann Morgan set herself a challenge – to read a book from every country in the world in one year. She describes the experience and what she learned.

I used to think of myself as a fairly cosmopolitan sort of person, but my bookshelves told a different story. Apart from a few Indian novels and the odd Australian and South African book, my literature collection consisted of British and American titles. Worse still, I hardly ever tackled anything in translation. My reading was confined to stories by English-speaking authors.

DONALD TRUMP: PREPARE FOR "FINANCIAL RUIN IN AMERICA"

The United States could soon become a large-scale Spain or Greece, teetering on the edge of financial ruin.

That’s according to Donald Trump, who painted a very ugly picture of where this country is headed. Trump made the comments during a recent appearance on Fox News’ “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.”

According to Trump, the United States is no longer a rich country. “When you’re not rich, you have to go out and borrow money. We’re borrowing from the Chinese and others. We’re up to $16 trillion in debt.”

JK ROWLING WRITES CRIME NOVEL

JK Rowling, the British author of the best-selling Harry Potter books, was forced to reveal on Sunday that she had published a critically acclaimed crime novel under a pseudonym.
The mother of three was unveiled by the Sunday Times newspaper as the writer of “The Cuckoo’s Calling”, a debut novel about a private detective who investigates a model’s suicide. It is purportedly by Robert Galbraith, described by the publisher as a former member of the Royal Military Police who has since 2003 been working in the civilian security industry.

The newspaper looked into Galbraith after suspicions were raised at how a first-time author with a background in the military could write such an assured debut novel. After being outed, Rowling, 47,

SAM MENDES RETURNS AS DIRECTOR IN THE NEXT BOND'S FILM

Oscar-winner Sam Mendes has confirmed he will direct the next James Bond film, following the critical and commercial success of his first 007 instalment Skyfall.

Daniel Craig is contracted to make two more movies as the British spy, with producer Barbara Broccoli telling Fairfax she hopes it is more. "He says two, I keep correcting him and saying 'at least two' because I don't want to ever think of a day where he may not do this anymore."

Craig however will only speak of the next film. "I'm contracted for two more and I want to do another one," said Craig. "Beyond another one it's very difficult to imagine, because they're such big events in your life. They take up every minute in your day when you're doing them."

Good news for those of you who enjoy a nice cold Coke: the company has rolled out a new bottle made entirely from frozen water. Bad news for those of you who don’t live in Colombia: It’s only available in Colombia.

This icy new drinking vessel is shaped like the traditional glass Coke bottle and has the company’s name etched into the ice, according to Coca Cola’s website. Alas, right now you can only find it in Colombia, and there’s no word yet if Coke will introduce it in any other countries. But apparently it’s pretty popular so far — according to the site, beachside vendors have sold an average of 265 bottles per hour.
