OCTOBER 5TH: GLOBAL JAMES BOND DAY

"Shaken, not stirred." The world's greatest spy. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise on the anniversary of Dr. No, which "enjoyed its world film premiere in London" on October 5, 1962, and in anticipation of the worldwide release of the 23rd James Bond adventure Skyfall,
Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced today that October 5th, 2012 will be Global James Bond Day, a day-long series of events for Bond fans around the world. Yay! I know what I'm doing October 5th.

James BondsThe announcement for the Global James Bond Day was revealed via a press release and on all the official sites, including 007.com with a great photo of Sean Connery and the early Bond days. Further worldwide events celebrating Bond's golden anniversary include a global online and live auction charity event of 50 lots to benefit twelve charitable institutions organized by Christie's in London, a global survey to discover the favorite Bond film by country, a film retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, a Music of Bond night in Los Angeles hosted by the AMPAS, and an exhibition, "Designing 007: 50 Years of Bond Style," at TIFF in Toronto. This all ties in with the Blu-Ray Bond 50 box set release and plenty more events leading up to the 23rd Bond film Skyfall hitting theaters (October for Europe) in November - see the trailer.

Global James Bond Day will also include the release of a new 007 documentary, titled Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007. The doc, directed by Stevan Riley (Fire In Babylon), has just been unveiled, and the press release states that "Everything or Nothing focuses on three men with a shared dream – Bond producers Albert R. Broccoli, Harry Saltzman and author Ian Fleming. Director Stevan Riley follows a story that begins with a groundbreaking spy thriller and continues six Bonds and five decades later. While Bond was saving the world from chaos and catastrophe on screen, this compelling documentary draws back the curtain to reveal the battles, threats and real stakes unfolding behind the camera." Awesome.

As I said when they first announced in January that this would be the year of Bond, "it looks like 2012 will be a big year for Agent 007." I'm glad they're planning to go all out with the release and with the true 50th anniversary of Dr. No, because Bond deserves this kind of massive worldwide celebration. Daniel Craig as Bond was already showcased at the Olympics, next stop is take over the rest of the world. I'm getting excited for Global James Bond Day already, hopefully with my Blu-Ray set in hand to have a marathon of all my favorites. Further updates and local info will be released on 007.com and Bond's Facebook. "Grow up, 007."
