WHAT WE'RE GONNA TALK

Just like in a cafe, we talk about everything. Nothing heavy. Just talk over a cup of coffee.

THE SONAR IMAGE OF AMELIA EARHART'S PLANE WRECKAGE?

Grainy sonar images depicting a narrow, 22-ft. long object found some 600 feet below sea level in the Pacific Ocean may show the remains of the Lockheed Electra plane flown by Amelia Earhart. The world-famous aviator and her navigator, Fred Noonan, disappeared on July 2, 1937, somewhere near Nikumaroro Island in the western Pacific Ocean. Five years after successfully crossing the Atlantic on a solo flight at age 34, the airwoman was attempting to circumnavigate the globe along the equator.

AMELIA EARHART'S PLANE FOUND?

A team of researchers seeking to solve the mystery of aviator Amelia Earhart's 1937 disappearance say a sonar image taken from just beyond the shore of a remote Pacific island could be a piece of wreckage from her plane.

A forensic imaging specialist for a research team that conducted a $2.2 million expedition to the island of Nikumaroro searching for Earhart's plane last year said the image could represent a wing or part of the fuselage from Earhart's aircraft.

SONG FOR THE CHILDREN by OSCAR HARRIS (video)

Lyric:

THE MANY BENEFITS OF WALKING

The human body is made to walk.

Walking 30 minutes a day cuts the rate of people becoming diabetic by more than half and it cuts the risk of people over 60 becoming diabetic by almost 70 percent.

Walking cuts the risk of stroke by more than 25 percent.

Walking reduces hypertension. The body has over 100,000 miles of blood vessels. Those blood vessels are more supple and healthier when we walk.

Walking cuts the risk of cancer as well as diabetes and stroke.

Women who walk have a 20 percent lower likelihood of getting breast cancer and a 31 percent lower risk of getting colon cancer.

YOUR COMFORT ZONE WILL KILL YOUR PASSION

We all love to be comfortable. Don't we?

Comfort conjures in our minds an idyllic life replete with all the trappings of the good life. When we are in our comfort zones, we feel completely secure and are not afraid of challenges - for they don't exist.

Here at the apex of familiar surroundings, we are the rulers. Everyone and anything bow before us in humble servitude and awe. We want and get what we want without much effort. We can predict what tomorrow portends by just cutting and pasting today.

CREATIVITY REQUIRES TIME (video)

KNOW WHEN YOU KNOW ENOUGH, THEN GET TO WORK

“If you're interested, you'll do what's convenient. If you're committed, you'll do whatever it takes.”
– John Assaraf

About a month ago, I attended a seminar filled with many of today’s current marketing ideas… replacing the hourly model, leveraging programs and packages, utilizing automation and optimizing social media.  I’ve been reading and taking courses in this area for years, but am always eager to learn more.

CHILDREN THRIVE WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM THEIR FRIENDS

When I was a child, my sister and I used to get together with the neighbor kids and create shows. There would be numerous and varied acts, multiple costume changes, and a shifting cast. We created tickets and offered refreshments for our parent audience members. Preparing the show involved inspiration, arguments, and occasional tears, and the performance invariably had calamities like falling curtains and wandering toddlers, but somehow the show went on, and we all enjoyed the final bows.
For most adults, some of our fondest memories of childhood involve the times we spent playing with friends. In some sense, friendship is what childhood is all about. Friends are not only a source of fun; they also help children grow in meaningful ways.

WALK YOUR OWN WALK

You have to walk your own walk in this life. And as you are traveling down your road, don't look down at your feet. Keep your head up and your eyes focused on what you know to be true. Be neither a follower nor a leader. You are not forsaken; you are forgiven, and when shadows exist simply find higher ground to tread upon. If you come across an obstacle or an impasse, pay mind to it but don't focus on it for too long or your feet may sink into the quicksand that surrounds it. Find the courage to surmount it and continue on your journey.

HOW INTERNET MAKES LIFE MORE COMPLEX BY MAKING COMPLEX THINGS SIMPLE

Imagine one day without your smartphone: you would probably be unable to recall your to-do list, find where you need to go, and keep up with boredom. Now remember how much you over-spent on music, travel, movies, and food 10 years ago, and how limited our knowledge of anything was before Google and Wikipedia. On the one hand, our life is now more efficient, cheaper, simpler and faster thanks to the rise of apps and 24-7 connectivity. On the other hand, that also exposes the intellectual vulnerability of our offline life — without internet access, even a 7-year old is smarter than us (so long as she has access to the web).

NAVY DOLPHINS DISCOVER RARE 128-YEAR-OLD TORPEDO NEAR SAN DIEGO

It’s common knowledge that the Army completes some missions with the help of dogs. Books, movies, and TV have admiringly aired the feats of those four-legged “K-9 unit” warriors from World War II down through the present. Much less well-known, though, is that the Navy relies on some animal volunteers, too—namely, dolphins, whose ingrained navigational skills outdo even the most sophisticated submarine systems on the planet.

HOWELL TORPEDO

Howell torpedo flywheel

The Howell Automobile Torpedo was the first self-propelled (locomotive) torpedo in United States Navy service.

It was conceived by Lieutenant Commander John A. Howell, United States Navy, in 1870, using a 60 kg (130 lb) flywheel spun at very high speed (10000 to 12000 rpm) to store energy and drive propellers. Because it had no complicated engine and fuel system, the Howell was much cheaper and easier to build than its main competitor, the Whitehead.

CONSIDER THIS, BEFORE HIRING A DESIGN PARTNER

Design is a service, not a magic spell. There are designers who do it well, and those who do it poorly; some produce profitable outcomes, and some waste money. More and more companies view design as an important strategic element of their business and are seeking partners to help them understand how it can help. If you're setting out to do so, you'll need to confront uncertainty about how to get the most value from the investment and carefully consider

RECHARGE YOUR CELLPHONE'S BATTERY IN 20 SECONDS

A tiny device that can recharge cell phone batteries in as little as 30 seconds won 18-year-old Eesha Khare a major science award that will help fund her college education at Harvard University.

Khare traveled from her California home to Phoenix last week for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, where her invention was honored as one of two winners of Young Scientist Awards.

PORN IS NOT ADDICTIVE

Complaining about the dangers of porn distracts from personal responsibility.

Porn is not addictive. Sex is not addictive. The ideas of porn and sex addiction are pop psychology concepts that seem to make sense, but have no legitimate scientific basis. For decades, these concepts have flourished in America, but have consistently been rejected by medicine and mental health. The media and American society have accepted that sex and porn are addictive, because it seems intuitively true - we all feel like sometimes, we might do something stupid or self-destructive, when sex is involved. But, this false belief is dangerous, and ultimately not helpful. Because when people buy into the belief that porn is addictive, it changes the argument, and all of a sudden, it seems like it is porn and sex that are the problems. Porn addiction becomes a label, and seems to be an explanation, when in fact, it is just meaningless words and platitudes that distract from the real issue. But sex and porn aren’t the problems. You are.

9 HABITS THAT MAY DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD

Discover which 'healthy' actions might be having a negative impact.

The basics of staying healthy seem pretty easy to follow: Eat well, exercise, get enough sleep and you should be on the right track, right? Surprisingly, it can be more complicated than that. Oftentimes the very choices we make to benefit our health can be the same ones that hurt us in the long run. Read on to learn which unexpected habits — like brushing your teeth after every meal or slipping into a pair of comfortable sandals — might be causing you harm.

BITTER MELON MAY CURE PANCREATIC CANCER

A new study from the University of Colorado Cancer Center reveals that bitter melon juice restricts the ability of pancreatic cancer cells to metabolize glucose, thus cutting the cells’ energy source and eventually killing them.

The findings of the study were published in the journal Carcinogenesis.

“Three years ago researchers showed the effect of bitter melon extract on breast cancer cells only in a Petri dish. This study goes much, much farther,” says Rajesh Agarwal, PhD, co-program leader of Cancer Prevention and Control at the CU Cancer Center and professor at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

THE ORIGIN OF TEA

Every day, people drink about three billion cups of tea. Tea is one of the most popular beverages in the world. In this connection, it is particularly interesting that tea's popularity is almost completely based on a series of incidents. Tea is a paradoxical example of a product that is engaged in it own marketing by itself.

The first incident was the very appearance of such a drink as tea. Legend has it (the drink appeared at the time, from which nothing,
